The Golden Ratio (or Golden Mean) is an area indicated by a proportion based on the Fibonacci series [more info]. Since the Renaissance (and likely before), artists, architects, and composers have been aware of the importance of the Golden Mean and have used it in numerous works. Therefore, it’s only natural that we should be curious as to where the Golden Mean is located in any sound file.  Golden Mean Finder lets you do just that. It is a Max/MSP patch that lets you load a sound file in any format. There is a graph below the playbar  where you can see the Golden Mean and the two sides that make up the proportion.  This is a Max collective, since it has to include the picture.  Anyone who is interested in the Patch can post a comment to this post and I will send it or, if there is interest, I will post it on this page.  Picture and info are courtesy of the Wikipedia entry.
