This post is meant for Mac QuickTime Pro version 7.5. Other versions may work, but can’t be guaranteed.
I recently had a need to play along with a soundfile at the Baroque standard of A=415. I was, however, interested playing along using a Piano at A=440. The way I did this was simply to drag the file to the desktop and then open it with QuickTime. Using Apple-K will reveal a window that allows you to change the pitch of a sound file without changing speed. Although this type of synthesis is generally disastrous, the result here is very good, definitely not perfect, but absolutely usable. Dragging the Pitch arrow to the next click up will raise the pitch by one half-step, roughly the amount needed to bump 415 up to 440 (see below)
