Speed up Safari – or Firefox, or any browser with this simple tip.

Here it is: Set “New Windows open with” to blank page. Set “New Tabs open with” to blank page. This preference should be somewhere fairly obvious in your browser preferences. Safari’s preference window is shown below. Maybe I’m an idiot, but it took me a few months to lament about how Safari was stuck whenever I opened it, and I couldn’t enter anything into the Google search box without waiting 6 seconds. It turned out that this had nothing to do with Safari, it was because my home page was loading slowly. It’s possible that some browsers will let you enter into the Google search bar before your home page is fully loaded, but Safari apparently doesn’t. Any ads or slow loading scripts are going to jam Safari before you can enter in search text or a new URL.

Set new windows and tabs to open with empty page. No more items to load!
