Josquin: “La Spagna” for 5 alto melodicas
By Jaems • Jun 9th, 2010 • Category: Video
This is a 5-part consort piece written by Franco-Flemish composer Josquin des Prez, considered by many to be one of the most significant composers of the early Renaissance. Although this piece was written for a standard high to low consort distribution, I have chosen to adapt it for 5 equal instruments. For this performance, the Tenor part is located in the center frame and has the “La Spagna” melody in long notes. It binds the upper and lower voices, shown here graphically in that the Discant and Alto voices are located above and the Vagant and Bass parts are located below, in left to right order.
