MouseMusic, from the archives: a drawing synth standalone for Max/MSP

By Jaems • Sep 29th, 2008 • Category: Software

I first wrote the sounds for MouseMusic for the performance of a piece using color tracking with video camera.  The sounds were later adapted to a VST plugin as part of a learning experience for me on how to make plugins. Later on, I developed the whole concept into a standalone, and someone requested a keyboard to change the goal pitches, so here it is.

Updated for PPC Mac, IntelMac and Windows (one cross-platform patch), it will also work for OS9! You may use a midi device controller to send volume (controller 7) and pan (controller 10) to MouseMusic. This will enable you to twiddle dials to draw in the white area.   Otherwise you can draw or manually spin the dials on the X and Y axes. You can also select tones with the interface keyboard or by using an actual midi keyboard. Please leave all components in the same folder.  You may move the folder anywhere.

Patch requires Max/MSP Runtime to run, if you don’t have the commercial version. Max/MSP Runtime can be downloaded for free here [link]  Just choose your operating system and download.  Please note that MouseMusic will run under Max 5 and 4.
